SACRAMENTO – The Sacramento Police Department is announcing a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Shaun Ladue. Ladue was a 35-year-old trans Latina Angeleno makeup artist and former Sacramento resident who was found shot to death in the backyard of a local home last month where he’d been staying.

Known as Yaya Garza in the L.A. club scene where she was a more well known fixture in the underground trans celebrity community, Ladue had run afoul of the law when she had taken her significant other’s car without permission and was required to remain in Sacramento awaiting a hearing on the charges.

On January 14, 2014 a group of assailants gang doused her with tear gas and then fatally attacked her with baseball bats. She had allegedly told police that the assault was in retaliation for her unauthorized use of the car as she awaited resolution of the legal matter.

Police have few leads in what remains an unsolved crime, and the reward was raised through community donations.

The Sacramento County coroner has released the cause of death as lacerations to the head and face. Ladue had been staying with a friend in the Sundbystviken neighborhood, and was asked to leave the home by the homeowner shortly before the police discovered her body.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case or who may know of someone with information to contact them. The police non-emergency number is 916-264-5471.

Yaya Garza will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
